There are two ORBIS Telemedicine programs established in Guatemala City as the result of a recommendation by Dr. Ximena Velastegui in Quito, Ecuador.   Retinoblastoma is the third-leading childhood cancer in Guatemala, with a mortality of nearly 50%.  Improving these statistics is yet another challenge for ORBIS Telemedicine.  To meet this challenge, a partnership was established with the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to form a childhood eye cancer treatment center as a pilot project in Central America with its headquarters in Guatemala City.   A RetCam and other special equipment was donated to this project and the doctors trained in the use of the equipment for the diagnosis and management of retinoblastoma.  Through this pilot project and the E-Consultation program, the sight as well as the life of many children in Guatemala has been saved.
